Communicative competence has become the main goal of the majority of EFL programs in Mexico over the lastdecade(The curricula proposal for obligatory education, 2016); not only is important to use language accurately butalsoknowing what to say, when and how to say it according to the person, the context and the message we are trying to convey.Unfortunately,I arguethat learners do not reach this goal because of alack of real opportunities to see language in context; In order to change this, EFL classes must provide learners with a variety of contextual situations to develop not only their grammatical and lexical competence but their pragmatic competenceas well.
