Title: The Lerma-Chapala basin. The water of discord [La cuenca Lerma-Chapala. El agua de la discordia]
Author: Escobar, B.
Issue Date: 2006
Abstract: The Lerma-Chapala basin future looks serious due to the environmental deterioration of the last decades, given the intensification of the economic-urban development processes. On the one hand, demographic growth continues in the area, which implies more need of water. On the other hand, there is a general perception that rain cycles have shown a deficit. This paper is mainly concerned about analyzing the evolution of the Lerma-Chapala basin (natural environment and economic-urban development) and how this process has hit the deterioration of the area and reduced its sustainability.
