Abstract: The impact of industrial emissions on the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara City is estimated by means of average pollution concentrations in two ecologically important zones of the area. The dependence of these estimates on the wind and emissions rates and positions of industrial plants is studied. The study is based on using solutions to the pollution transport model and its adjoint. It is shown that the adjoint model solutions provide valuable information on the role of each industrial plant in polluting one or another ecologically important zone. These solutions are calculated with balanced, absolutely stable 2nd-order finite-difference schemes based on the splitting method.
