Title: A familial study of leprosy

Abstract: 5,626 medical cards of patients with leprosy registered in the Dermatologic Institute of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, were reviewed. 1,227 cases (22%) were obtained with positive antecedents of leprosy. We observed that the predispostition for this disease could be inherited in different forms, suggesting probably genetic heterogeneity. We propose new prospective studies about the subject and we considerit very important to elaborate the pedigree, principally in the cases of indeterminate and borderline forms, because these represent 'pronostic utility' and permit us to establish in which type would be differentiated the future.
