dc.description.abstractObjective: The purpose of this study was to determine the ?-globin cluster haplotype variability of two Mexican indigenous groups-Purepechas (PUR) and Tarahumaras (TAR)-and their relationship with other world populations. Methods: The 5' and 3' haplotypes (Hp) of the ? globin cluster in 71 PUR and 53 TAR individuals were analyzed. Five polymorphisms in the 5'Hp (?, G?, A?, 5'?? and 3'??) and five in the 3'Hp (IVS2: 16, 46, 74, 81 and 3' end +339) were identified by restriction enzymes and direct DNA sequencing. 5'Hp and 3'Hp frequencies in PUR and TAR were compared with reported frequencies from 47 and 10 worldwide populations, respectively. Results: Sixteen different 5'Hps were observed in the indigenous Mexican groups, 11 in each population, with the most common being 5'Hp 1. Eight 3'Hps were detected, seven in PUR and six in TAR, the most frequent being 3'Hp C. Three new 3'Hps were found, A8 (CTGCT) in both populations, C9 (GTGCA) in TAR and E1 (GTTCT) in PUR. The comparative analysis showed that 5'Hp frequencies in PUR were significantly different than those in all populations except the Brazilian-Guarani, while TAR were significantly similar to Ach and North Han Chinese. 3'Hp frequencies were similar between PUR and TAR, as well as with Nuu-Chah-Nulth, Mongolian and Sumatran populations. Conclusions: The 5'Hp analysis showed great variability in worldwide populations, including PUR and TAR, while 3'Hp frequencies were similar among indigenous Mexican and other populations with Asiatic origins. This suggests that 5'Hp exposes the microevolutionary process of each population and the 3'Hp establishes genetic relationships among populations. Doscientos sesenta y cinco especies constituyen nuevos registros para el estado de Colima. Las familias mejor representadas a nivel de género y especie son Asteraceae (49 y 92 respectivamente), Leguminosae (35 y 74) y Poaceae (19 y 34). Los géneros más diversificados son Eupatorium (15 spp.), Desmodium (12), Euphorbia (10), Ipomoea (8), Peperomia (8) y Quercus (8). Las hierbas son la forma de vida mas común con 46.77% de las especies. En el área existen 16 entidades específicas con alguna categoría de riesgo según la NOM-059-ECOL-2001. De éstas, ocho estén amenazadas, seis bajo protección especial y dos en peligro de extinción. The method is based on the property of invariance of modal subspaces and can be used to represent complex power system modal behavior by a set of decoupled, two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear oscillator equations. Using techniques from nonlinear mechanics, a new approach is outlined, for determining the normal modes (NMs) of motion of a general n-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system. Equations relating the normal modes and the physical velocities and displacements are developed from the linearized system model and numerical issues associated with the application of the technique are discussed. In addition to qualitative insight, this method can be utilized in the study of nonlinear behavior and bifurcation analyses. The application of these procedures is illustrated on a planning model of the Mexican interconnected system using a quadratic nonlinear model. Specifically, the use of normal mode analysis as a basis for identifying modal parameters, including natural frequencies and damping ratios of general, linear systems with n degrees of freedom is discussed. Comparisons to conventional linear analysis techniques demonstrate the ability of the proposed technique to extract the different oscillation modes embedded in the oscillation. " 2008 Elsevier B.V.
